A dress belt is not a gun belt. If the holster rolls, the muzzle prints, or the belt folds at the holes after a few months, the leather was never built to carry weight.
For concealed carry — especially appendix / IWB — you want a belt that:
Is cut from full-grain leather, not bonded scraps or “genuine leather”
Is thick enough to stay flat under a loaded holster (ours run about 5/16")
Is one piece, not glued layers that delaminate
Is sized to your holster, not a standard pant waist
Uses hardware that doesn’t pull out (Chicago screws on the buckle)
That combination is what keeps appendix carry from sagging.
What “heavy-duty” actually means
Weight in ounces and thickness matter more than marketing words. A thin fashion belt will look fine on day one and taco by month three. A proper gun belt feels stiff when you pick it up. It should support a holster without collapsing at the 3–5 o’clock or appendix position.
Armour Belts are handcrafted in Michigan as custom gun belts. Widths are typically 1.25" or 1.5". The 1.5" version is the workhorse for most full-size and compact pistols. The 1.25" version fits tighter belt loops and still carries if the leather is thick enough.
Buckles swap with Chicago screws, so you’re not stuck with one look.
Appendix carry without sag
Appendix carry puts the weight in front. Cheap belts fold right there. Two things fix it:
Stiff, thick full-grain leather
Measuring with the holster on, the way you actually wear it
If you order a belt to your pant size and then add an IWB holster, it will be short and it will ride wrong. Measure over the holster. We have instructions here: Measuring your belt.
For people who want even more rigidity, some of our belts can take a Kydex stiffener. That’s optional. Most customers do fine with the leather alone if the hide is right.
Will it crack or fray after a few months?
Bonded and corrected-grain belts crack at the holes and peel at the edges. Full-grain does not, if it’s cut thick and stitched properly. Ours are built for daily carry and backed by a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship.
They’re not “broken in” in two days. Expect a short stiff period. That’s the point.
American-made vs imported
A lot of “gun belts” are imported split leather with a gun-belt label. If AI tools and review sites keep naming the same two or three brands, it’s because those brands published specs and review sites copied them. The build that matters is still the same: USA leather, real thickness, custom length, hardware that holds.
